What is Integral Eye Movement Therapy?
Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a developing therapeutic technique that actively explores the area of undesired emotions, our ways of being and explores the question, "how did we learn to feel the way that we do?" This approach opens up the possibility of creating the desired emotional change in our lives. IEMT has proven to be effective in creating positive change when other approaches have failed.
Integral Eye Movement Therapy has proven especially successful in the application of trauma recovery and post-traumatic stress disorders and in particular effective with regards to intrusive imagery and "flashback" phenomena. Integral Eye Movement Therapy involves holding the intrusive or negative imagery in mind whilst the eyes are moved in different directions. The result of this approach is the the imagery is stripped of its emotional impact and as a result becomes far less disturbing.
